Winchester College has been providing education and financial support for over 600 years. Enabling boys who can best benefit from what Winchester has to offer regardless of their parents' ability to pay has always been and remains a core element of the School's ethos.
Bursaries are available as part of the Admissions process to the School and to existing pupils in cases of financial hardship. Bursary awards can be assessed for up to 100% of fees in extreme cases, though it is more likely that they will be calculated as a top-up to support a parent's payment of fees. They are subject to annual review early every calendar year.
The application process involves the completion and submission of a Bursary Application Form which must be supported by relevant documentation. Applications must normally be made as part of the School Admissions process well in advance of a pupil's entry into the School, as described in the Bursaries Guidance and Procedure document. Applications are welcome at any time from parents of existing pupils in cases of sudden financial hardship.
For its part, the School is committed to providing bursaries to allow those who otherwise would not be able to attend the School to do so. It is working hard to increase its capacity to award bursaries but resources are finite. The School is not in the business of subsidising parents' lifestyles, but rather does everything in its power to direct such funds as are available to the greatest number of pupils who most need support.
For their part, the School asks parents to respect the spirit of that relationship and apply in the utmost good faith. Before asking for bursary support, parents are expected to have explored all alternative sources of funding and for many that may involve support from the wider family.
Parents likely to seek help with fees through the Bursary Scheme may wish to discuss the support available with the Bursar in advance of applying.

There is a wide range of Educational Trusts, from which additional funding is occasionally available. The Bursar, Mr Steven Little, can offer advice about these on request.
