Head of Modern Languages 

Winchester College seeks to appoint a well-qualified, innovative and energetic Head of Modern Languages.

The successful candidate will be a dual linguist, who is able to teach at least one language, but preferably both, to Pre-U and university entrance level. He or she will be enthusiastic about promoting and developing the department, which is strongly represented at Oxford, Cambridge and other top universities. French, German, Spanish, Russian are taught to Pre-U level, and Chinese is taught to GCSE.

The College, which was founded in 1382, is a boys' boarding school of 700 pupils. We are committed to the highest standards of academic excellence, first class pastoral care and the maintenance of a broad and balanced liberal education for all our pupils. Through our non-examined general cultural studies programme (known as Division) we offer an approach to education which develops an intelligent and critical awareness of the world, strong communication skills and a confident ability to think independently and with originality. In addition to teaching Modern Languages, applicants may be required to teach Division.

All our full-time teachers are expected to act as tutors in one of the eleven boarding houses, thereby making a significant contribution to the pastoral care of our pupils. Head of Biology 

Winchester College seeks to appoint a well-qualified, dedicated and inspiring Head of Biology.

The successful candidate, who will teach throughout the school including CIE Pre-U Biology, will be enthusiastic about promoting this popular subject and developing the department. The subject enjoys an excellent academic record: in Summer 2017, of 19 Pre-U Biology candidates 13 obtained Distinctions. Each year pupils from Winchester go on to study Biology and related subjects at Oxbridge and other top universities.

Carpenter

The Works Department has a full time vacancy for a qualified carpenter. The job involves both maintenance and project work. This is an excellent opportunity to join a diverse and well respected team of tradespeople carrying out work both in normal domestic situations and in Grade-listed properties. The essential criteria for this post are sound technical knowledge and skills, self-motivation, excellent people skills and the stamina to work in all weathers.

Accounts Assistant (Financial Analyst)

Winchester College seeks to appoint Financial Analyst in the Bursary Accounts team.

The successful candidate will provide an effective accounting and financial analysis service to support the Chief Accountant, and will also be expected to take on a variety of other tasks in the Accounts Office. Applicants should be numerate and financially literate and AAT-qualified (we would consider part-qualified). They should have proven analytical and reporting skills with an advanced knowledge of Microsoft excel, should possess excellent organisational and time-management skills, and should show careful attention to detail.

Evening Cleaners

Winchester College has vacancies for reliable people to work as Evening Cleaners as part of the Central Cleaning team responsible for the day-to-day cleanliness of all school buildings except the Boarding Houses.

The Cleaners will be expected to follow detailed instructions, and must be capable of meeting the physical requirements of the post. No experience is required as training will be provided, but applicants who have experience of commercial cleaning and COSHH will have an advantage.

Handyperson

Winchester College seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and reliable person to work in one of the Boarding Houses, completing everyday maintenance tasks and supporting the cleaning teams in their duties. The essential requirements for this role are an eye for detail, the ability to work independently, an understanding of preventative maintenance, a facility with painting and basic carpentry and, importantly, the stamina to complete demanding outdoor and indoor tasks.

The role is term-time only, working Monday to Friday, 20 hours per week, with one day off during the week. Applicants should ultimately be flexible and able to adapt and contribute as required.

Domestics (Weekend and Evenings)

Winchester College has vacancies for reliable people to work as Domestics (weekend and evenings) in several Boarding Houses, carrying out general cleaning duties and assisting in the Dining Room serving meals. The ideal candidates must be self-motivated and able to work both on their own and as part of a team, and should display a high level of integrity and attention to detail. These roles are term-time only, working various shifts, from weekends 9.00am to 2.00pm to evenings (Monday to Sunday) 5.00pm to 7.00pm.
