On Saturday 8th June, we were honoured to welcome the former world #9 and current world #17 squash player, Daryl Selby, to our courts.
Functioning partly as a farewell ceremony for our current courts before the new Sports Centre is built, pupils from all years were joined by the current and previous Masters-in-Charge of squash to watch a match between Mr Selby and me.
It was an inspirational experience for both myself and for all of our players who had the opportunity to witness a world class squash professional in action. All boys also had the opportunity to play a few points with, and ask questions of Mr Selby afterwards.
Our current squash courts have served us well over the years and we look forward to using the courts in the new Sports Centre when it opens. This was certainly a great way to formally say farewell to our courts.
Of course, none of this would be possible without our coach Richard Atkinson who arranged the event and is also responsible for Winchester College's unprecedented success on the squash courts in recent years.
